Outdoor Preschool
At East Bay Roots LLC, we are dedicated to fostering a love for nature and learning through our 100% outdoor preschool program. Scheduled to launch in the 2026-2027 school year, our preschool is designed to organically engage children with their environment while encouraging exploration and discovery. Our preschool program runs concurrently with our homeschool enrichment offerings, providing a seamless integration of outdoor activities and educational development. We aim to create a nurturing space where children can interact freely with nature, develop social skills, and nurture their innate curiosity in a multi-age setting.

Roaming Program: Exploring more of the East Bay!
Part of what makes our program special is each school year we are rooted in a new East Bay location. Every spring microschool families (Preschool and Homeschool Enrichment groups) vote on where to be rooted for the following school year. Not only is this an effort to see more landscapes; but also to expand our reach in the hope of bringing more children and families closer to nature.
Nature-Based Curriculum
Here at East Bay Roots, LLC, we follow a nature-based curriculum; our learner-led lessons and activities are geared toward the natural world. Much of what we do is to educate young people about what they see around them, encouraging them to be curious and explore, to build real-world problem-solving skills. Using our landscape as our classroom, we observe, identify, and form connections with the land, plants, and animals that inhabit it. We spend our time hiking, playing, creating, and learning from one another and the land.
100% Outdoor
Part of our school’s magic is that we are 100% outside, year-round, rain or shine! This allows us to see our landscape in different seasons, observing Earth's natural choreography as seasons flow into the next. Getting quality time with nature allows us to be constant observers, deepening our connection with it and strengthening our roots. Children learn to familiarize themselves with endemic flora and fauna, identify tracks, and develop a curiosity and desire to learn more.
Play-Based Philosophy
Our philosophy is play-based rooted. Play based learning is the idea that children learn from constructing their own knowledge through what children already organically love to do, play! When play is the priority, children are free to be children, to engage in schematic play, they are encouraged to go and explore, and creatively collaborate with their peers.
